My PhD thesis and the associated four scientific publications intensively dealt with the environmental impacts of human beings and their consumption using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methods. During these almost five years, I developed countless models with LCA software to calculate human beings’ ecological footprint in various areas of life, such as transportation, food, and housing, but also in less frequently considered categories, such as pets, clothing, cosmetics, and hygiene products.
By analyzing real-life consumption data from “test subjects,” including the 50-year-old entrepreneur Dirk Gratzel and a mother with her two children, I gained unique and detailed insights into human consumption habits and their associated environmental impacts. I then developed the calculator, its categories, and calculations based on my findings and ideas to suit the needs and consumption patterns of all my fellow travelers out there.
